About Us

Our Vision
Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL)

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) is one of the largest steel-making companies in India and one of the Maharatnas of the country’s Central Public Sector Enterprises.

SAIL produces iron and steel at five integrated plants and three special steel plants, located principally in the eastern and central regions of India and situated close to domestic sources of raw materials. SAIL manufactures and sells a broad range of steel products.

The Government of India owns about 65% of SAIL’s equity and retains voting control of the Company. However, SAIL, by virtue of its ‘Maharatna’ status, enjoys significant operational and financial autonomy.

Bokaro Steel City

Bokaro Steel City in Bokaro district is a major city in Jharkhand, India. The city is primarily a captive township of SAIL-Bokaro Steel Plant and managed by the management of the Steel Plant. It is also the fourth largest and most populous city in the state, besides being one of the most well planned cities in Jharkhand. The city is located on the banks of Garga River and on the fringes of Bokaro river and is surrounded by hill ranges at Giridih and Ramgarh districts.

Bokaro has emerged as an industrial, commercial, educational, healthcare, sports, and startup hub. It is also India’s first Global Active Partner City. The city is home to Bokaro Steel Plant, a unit of Maharatna Steel Authority of India Limited. It’s a matter of pride that reckoning the huge pool of opportunities in the areas of Sports, Health & Well-being, feasibilities & achievements supported by the duly approved sporting drive of the Steel giant SAIL, Bokaro as well as it’s township of Bokaro Steel City in Jharkhand state has creditably positioned itself in the World Map as India’s first partner city in the International Olympic Committee (IOC) supported mission of Global Active City (GAC) in the year 2019-20.

The Global Active City mission is also incorporated by the health and wellness parameters of United Nations (UN)/UNESCO and the World Health Organization (WHO). Bokaro is steadily moving to acquire the full fledged status of India’s First Global Active City.

Active Well-being Initiative certifies cities as “Global Active Cities” through “Active Well-Being Initiative Network”. The salubrious concept was started by TAFISA (The Association For International Sport for All), and Evaleo, a sustainable health group, with the support from the apex International Olympic Committee (IOC). The creation and active promotion of sustainable health for everyone is the mission of the nonprofit organisation EVALEO.

The Global Active City mission also expedites the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDG) 2030 to acknowledge the Power of Sports towards making the World, a better place to live in.

Since 2015, Liverpool Active City has collaborated with TAFISA and Evaleo on the Global Active City Development Project, which the IOC supports. It seeks to create a labelling and certification programme based on an ISO-compatible standard, thereby recognising Active Cities worldwide performing marvellously.

As part of the Active Well-being Initiative model, urban planners and architects design cities and facilities with citizens’ needs, which results in the creation of a Global Active City (GAC), which promotes and facilitates an improved quality of life in a re-engineered, sustainable urban environment.

What does the recognition by the GAC mean?

  • The GAC appreciates the efforts made by cities to provide opportunities for residents to enhance their physical well-being.

  • The Active Well-being Initiative (AWI) assists towns and organisations in enhancing the quality of life for their residents by promoting sports, physical exercise, and overall well-being.
  • The AWI model promotes more sustainable urban life and pushes for new forms of governance in a society where health issues are rising.
  • A range of standards, tools, and services are offered by it.
